Somedays Cramp Cream and Heating Pad Period Product Review

Somedays products magic mud, cramp cream, and heating pad are laid out in the picture.

I have a lot of heating pads but none quite as personalized as this one.

I’ve been a part of “Endometriosis” instagram for about two years since my clinical diagnosis. I also have an ultrasound that shows suspected Adenomyosis so while I masked a lot of pelvic pain with hormones as a teenager and in my early 20’s I am once again familiar with the need for heat to ease pelvic pain. I also have sacroilitis so my lower back has been inflamed for as long as I can remember.

In comes Somedays. A company that is based out of British Columbia Canada that makes products for period pain relief for every body.

I really like their ethos and love that they describe themselves as “radical in every way”.

I bought the better period kit for $119 CAD so I could try out a few products with a bit of a discount instead of buying three individual products. Let’s talk reviews.

Cramp Cream

An open jar of Somedays Cramp Cream. The consistency is of a thicker lotion and the colour is white.

I find that topical creams can be hit or miss for me but I was curious to try the cramp cream. One of the co-founders has a background in sports medicine so to me, that was a great sign that they knew their stuff.

  • I love the scent of the cramp cream as it reminds me of a fancier and more natural Voltaren. It has notes of wintergreen and lavender. I will say that if I inhale it directly from the container like I just did to write this review, I find that the scent can be too strong. I have suspected mast cell disease and scents can sometimes be a trigger. If I am just rubbing it on my body, I am okay though. I would love to see an unscented version for the sensitive people out there.

  • I like the consistency as it isn’t too thin or too thick but I can feel that it is on my body. I don’t mind though because it is moisturizing.

  • A little goes a long way so don’t over apply thinking you will necessarily get better results. Just apply enough to cover the affected area. Each jar is $32 CAD..

  • I also really like that the jar is compostable. Maybe I might toss it into my Lomi to see how it does!

    Does it work?

  • Yes, in certain situations. I have used it several times in different locations and I find it to be best applied twice within an hour. I make sure to massage it into the skin and muscle as part of the therapy. I find that using it twice while also massaging twice helps to ease the pain but I still find myself reaching for other pain relievers on high pain days.. So I do like it for days where the pain is lower and I just apply as needed. It doesn’t touch a very high pain day for me but you may have a different experience.

UPDATE: It works well for me on days where my back is very sore. So that aching pain that lingers. I massaged it onto one part of my back that was in pain and left the other part untouched. The untouched part was still aching while the cramp cream was working well on the other side. I covered both sides and was able to keep moving afterwards. Again, your experience may differ but I think it’s best for this type of pain for me.

Heating Pad

A Somedays pelvis shaped heating pad with the words A Living Lemon embroidered on it.

The heating pad is really the first of its kind to be in the shape of a pelvis which is genius. I want more people to rethink everyday products in interesting ways.

  • I love that my heating pad is personalized. You can add custom embroidery to your heating pad order which makes it pretty special.

  • The heating pad is made of flax seed which holds heat longer than other grains or seeds according to Somedays. For me, it holds the heat longer than my comparable Magic Bag. I heated them both up and over an hour later, the Somedays heating pad has retained some heat while the similar Magic Bag is almost back to room temperature.

  • I love that I can reheat it as many times as needed. The Magic Bag suggests reheating only about 3 times per day and allowing it to cool for an hour between uses. I expect this might be a safety concern so you don’t burn yourself but if you are living with Endometriosis… well.. iykyk.

  • I like that there doesn’t seem to be a limit to how many uses the heating pad has. Others sometimes have limits on how many uses they can have.

Does it work?

Yes for specific cases. I heat mine for 2:30 but the instructions say heat for about 2 minutes. I find at 2 minutes, it isn’t hot enough. There are some cases where I want to be scalded by my heating pad and this can get hot but it doesn’t stay at that temperature the entire time like an electric heating pad. It works well for me when I have low to medium levels of pain and I need a bit of heft or weight to the compress. I also like that I can be in a meeting working from home and move around the house while wearing it in my pants.

I would love if it came with an adjustable strap so I could secure it around the painful area while moving around. Please make this!

Magic Mud

Full disclosure, I am not a bath person. I don’t do baths, I don’t find them relaxing so I haven’t used the magic mud yet. I am thinking that I will try it in a shower but sometimes the last thing I want to do is jump in the shower while I am in a flare. Perhaps after I exercise? I will update this post as soon as I figure out a way to use the magic mud.

You might be asking why I bought the kit with the mud in it and I would tell you that I thought the mud was a tea and so I ended up with no tea and bath mud but that’s fine. I really like the other products. Maybe I might do a giveaway if I can’t think of a way to use it. Let me know if I should!

Overall Impressions

I like the products I have tried. I will continue to buy and I am looking forward to trying other items like the belly jelly.

Can’t wait to see what else they whip up for people like us who have period pain, pelvic pain, and chronic pain.
