Sperri Meal Replacement Review
I was in the market for a meal replacement that checks all of my dietary restriction boxes. I think I found it with Sperri.
Sperri is a made in Canada meal replacement that is vegan, gluten-free, and suitable for those with allergies or food intolerances.
I was drawn to Sperri because they specifically mention, organic, Low FODMAP, gluten-free, vegan, and free from allergens. Because of my Endometriosis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, I find that a lot of packaged foods don’t meet my needs so I was pleasantly surprised to try out a meal replacement that might work.
What worked for me
They offer two flavours that I find to be mild in taste but pleasant. They have a Vanilla Maple and Chocolate.
For me, the Chocolate aggravated my MCAS as chocolate is known to be a mast cell trigger but the Vanilla Maple seems to work and I don’t have any of the typical allergic reactions.
The Vanilla Maple is tasty and I find it to be reasonably filling. I can go about two hours feeling not full but satisfied enough to keep going with the task at hand.
I like that I can also take it on the go and know that it won’t send me to the bathroom immediately (chronic illness problems).
I like that they prioritized making a meal replacement that would work for so many different types of bodies.
I also really like that the meal replacements have all the nutrients required in one simple bottle so when I drink one, I don’t feel as though I am skimping out on nutrients.
I love that they are a Canadian brand. The company is from Halifax Nova Scotia.
What did not work for me
For some, the taste might be too mild or not sweet enough but for me it works.
The chocolate is a bit more chalky than the vanilla flavour but nothing that you couldn’t get past if you are used to vegan protein powders. However, it is much less chalky than a typical vegan protein powder like Vega.
Depending on how much you are used to eating, the amount may not be enough for you. Each bottle has 330 calories.
I like to eat lower carb during the day so I don’t aggravate my POTS symptoms. I usually get pretty tired at lunch if I have more than about 20g of carbs. The shakes are 37g of carbs but only 15g of sugar. I find if I have them in the morning I do well but at lunch the added carbs tend to make me more tired. This is a personal issue and probably would be fine for the average consumer.
The price can be a bit of a barrier for some consumers. They do not offer free shipping unless you buy three 12 packs for $54.99 each, a variety pack of three 12 packs ($99), or if you buy a starter pack ($29.99 + tax). I do like that the starter pack has free shipping so you can try out the product. For me, I don’t want to buy the chocolate in the variety pack so I would end up needing to buy three packs of vanilla maple at $164.97 which is expensive. However, they end up at about $5 per meal replacement which is cheaper than a lunch that you would buy. I also don’t drink them everyday so it ends up working for me for that reason as well. An alternative is becoming a subscriber to save 10% if you have a regular schedule you would like to maintain with the delivery.
Overall Impressions
I really like the Sperri meal replacements. I am happy to have found a Canadian brand that works well for my dietary needs and helps to keep me satisfied. I would love to see additional flavour combinations and I would love to see more shipping options for reduced shipping costs. I would also like to see some variations such as low carb options or Keto options.
If you try out Sperri, let me know what you think!
